Health & Safety Officer (QSHE)

We are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Officer (QSHE) to join our team. This is a key role in ensuring legal compliance and maintaining our ISO standards, whilst driving a positive Health & Safety culture within our Organisation. This is a full time, permanent position based on site at our Leicestershire facility. There will be occasional travel within the UK and the role will also include out of hours on-call cover in conjunction with the Facilities and Procurement Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Health & Safety

 

  • Promote a positive health and safety across all aspects of the business
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments and audits
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and implement corrective actions - RIDDOR
  • Maintain and update H&S policies, procedures and training records
  • Control of COSHH and DSEAR requirements
  • Manage external LOLER and PUWER inspections
  • Manage all aspects of the company’s fire systems and equipment

Environmental

 

  • Ensure employees follow best practices for handling waste streams, including correct segregation and disposal into appropriate receptacles.
  • Manage the company’s waste streams and disposal processes in compliance with environmental regulations and internal policies.
  • Monitor and report on the company’s packaging waste

ISO

  • Maintenance of the company’s ISO certification, in accordance with the requirements of ISO9001, 14001 & 45001
    • Organisation of and participation at the BSI assessments
      • Corrective actions
    • Maintenance of the company’s:
      • Document register
      • IMS manual
      • Policies and procedures
      • Business continuity plan
      • Preferred supplier list
      • Monitoring and measurement elements
      • SWOT and Interested parties register
    • Conduct Internal audits.
    • Manage non-conformities, including investigation
    • Prepare management review report for the Facilities and Procurement Manager
  • Respond to customer’s ISO questionnaires

About You:

 

The candidate should have good knowledge and experience of UK Health & Safety legislation & best practice. Previous experience in a Health & Safety role with a proven track record in driving a positive safety culture. Experience within a manufacturing or similar environment would be advantageous. The successful candidate should be a proactive, confident team player with clear, concise communication skills, both written and verbal with an ability to also work independently.

A full UK driving licence will be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

NEBOSH General certificate in Occupational Health and safety or IOSH equivalent

NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk management

NEBOSH Environmental management certificate

IMS Internal auditor (ISO)

 

While Health and Safety is the primary focus of this role, knowledge of ISO is a preferred requirement.  However, suitable training and development will be provided for candidates without prior experience.
