Matsuura are delighted to announce the sale of our flagship linear motor machine, the Matsuura LX-1, to the University of Birmingham's internationally renowned Institue of Materials Research / Machining Research Group.

The supplied LX-1 possess a maximum spindle speed of 60,000rpm & rapid traverses of 90M/min on all axes.

The LX-1 compliments their existing Matsuura High Speed machining centre - the FX-5, & non conventional machining equipment including new micro EDM machines which together with the LX-1 will be used to sprearhead work principally with local SME's  on the concept & future products of Micro Machining.

Funding for the new equipment has been privided by Advantage West Midlands.

Over the next decade, it is envisaged that the machining of component features in the  10 - 300 micron range will be a key requirement of new products from industry sectors such as Aerospace, Communications, Medical & Electronics.

In the medical area in particular, rapid growth is anticipated with devices that are able to repair tissue & & deliver drugs directly to targeted areas via the bloodstream.

Matsuura will utilise the findings of the very important work undertaken at Birmingham University to develop the direction for future Matsuura Machine Tools.
